Week 12 Match Reports

Ashburton first team entertained a Yelverton first team who were winless at the bottom of C Division West.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and reached 81 for 1 thanks to Richard Townsend (21), James Casey (21) and Ben Grove (20). However the introduction of Matt Coon (9 overs, 4 for 17) saw wickets tumble. Only Steve Colmer (23) provided any lower order resistance as Matt Churchill (8.4 overs, 4 for 17) spun out the lower half of the order as Yelverton were all out for 150 with 2 balls remaining.

The Ashburton chase was a formality as Lloyd White and Jake Pascoe (27) added 119 for the first wicket and then skipper Ash Berry (7no) joined White to see Ashes to a 9 wicket win with 16.4 overs remaining. White reaching another excellent century to finish on exactly 100no.

After the game skipper Berry said "We needed to bounce back after dropping points last week and we did that convincingly. We now have a run of games against the teams around us in the league and with the table being so tight a bad run could make the league table look very different so it's important to keep the momentum going.".

Lloyd White - 100 not out on Saturday

Ashburton second team travelled to play Shaldon second team and after losing the toss were asked to field. Shaldon posted 222 for 8 in their 40 overs as all of the Ashes bowlers stuck to their task and were backed up by a good fielding display. Dean Topping (3 for 30) and George Marshall (1 for 23) were the pick of the bowling figures although Niall Kemp (0 for 31 from 5 overs) bowled better than his figures suggested.

In reply Ashes were 51 without loss off of just 6 overs as Martin Causey (48 retired hurt) and Tom Rush (25) set off in pursuit. Unfortunately from there the asking rate started to climb although George Marshall (18) and Dean Topping (53no) kept Ashes in the game. Felix Partridge (6no) produced the shot of the day with a wonderful off drive but sadly Ashes finished well short on 183 for 5.
