Ashburton Cricket Club Life Member, Vernon Coon, has been nominated for a National Cricket OSCA for his life-long contributions to the club and wider cricketing community. Vernon, 62, was nominated for the categories of both ‘Officiating’ & ‘Heartbeat of the Club’ and will now attend the annual awards held at the Nursery Pavilion, Lord's Cricket Ground on Tuesday 9th October 2018.

Vernon, who played his first game for the club in 1967, has held many roles during his time at Ashburton such as club coach, welfare officer and Chairman for 5 years. In 2015, the Ashburton CC Committee awarded an Honorary Life Membership to Vernon for his contributions to the club. Outside of Ashburton, Vernon has also acted as Treasurer and age-group coach for district sides and also had a had a major contribution in assisting local side Lustleigh to regain Devon League status.

Vern’s love for Ashburton came from his Father, George Coon, who was also a life member whilst his two sons Matt & Will, also represent the 1st XI.

Club Chairman Jerry Crouch reflected on the outstanding contributions of Vernon over the years. “This award is very much deserved after years of fantastic voluntary service that Vern has put in to make the club progress as much as possible. The club is very grateful for the time he gives as well as making himself available for umpiring our 1st XI on a weekly basis.”
