Chargers announce Arun Chelvan for season ahead!

Ashburton Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of Australian overseas Arun Chelvan.

Arun is an experienced all-rounder who plays for the Glen Waverley Hawks Cricket Club, in Melbourne. Over the past 3 seasons, he has been a significant contributor to the Hawks with both bat and ball and will no doubt be a fantastic addition to the Chargers player roster.

Last season, he averaged 23 with the bat and took 30 wickets at an average of just 19. This season, Arun has progressed even further after being part of the premiership winning side, the Hawks now play in the top grade.

Arun is vice-captain of the 2-day side and captain of the Twenty20 side, where he has started the season well with 270 runs at an average of 45 from 7 innings and has taken 10 wickets in 7 bowling efforts at an average of 19. Just before Christmas he smashed 124 not out in a winning Twenty20 game vs Mulgrave Wheelers Hill.

Club captain Ashley Berry reflected on the signing; “The early signing of Arun is fantastic news for all involved at the club. I’ve been told that Arun is a top clubman back home, sitting on the committee and a regular at junior training, meaning he matches the club’s values and ambitions. His stats talk for themselves and I have no doubt he will be a fantastic addition. I certainly can’t wait to meet and welcome him to the club.’

Arun looks forward to the challenge; “I’m thrilled to be joining Ashburton Cricket Club for the 2019 season. I’ve only heard good things about the club and look forward to contributing in any way possible to get as many wins on the board as we can! I can’t wait to get started!”
