Last night the Chargers took on Shaldon 1st X1 in a T20 friendly.
Bowling first the young Chargers line up found the wet pink ball difficult to grip in the field with both Shaldon openers being dropped in the first two overs. What followed was some very hard hitting with Wilcox hitting 84 from just 27 balls, but the Chargers stuck to their game knowing the tide would turn.
Matt Churchill (2-33) and Toby Pascoe (2-27) started the fight back. AJ (3-28) and Kirbz (2-25) then continued the good work, well supported by catches from Jack, Sam and Jake and good ground fielding from Luke on the boundary. Shaldon ending on 192-9.
Jake (34) and Lloyd (20) then got the reply off to a steady start, in dark conditions against quick and often short bowling the two openers put on 55. Matt Churchill (50 retired) added a further 60 with Jack Warren (14*) both showing excellent running between the wickets to help the chargers to a very respectable 143-3.
A display of character against a very strong Shaldon 1st X1. Skipper Lloyd White was rightly happy with the performance and attitude.
'We had a tough start with Wilcox going bezerk from the start with some clean hitting, but I was incredibly proud of the way the young lads turned the screw once he was dismissed by Tobes. Every bowler showed their consistency which bodes well for the weeks ahead. It was great to see Coachy and Jack Warren in the runs and had we taken all our chances, including me, we would have a been a bit closer. We go again and work hard on taking our chances at training and at the weekend to come.'
