Weekend Reports 7th/8th August 2021

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

Unfortunately the wet weather prevented any play for both senior Ashburton sides in the Devon Cricket League. This meant that the top of the table clash between Bridestowe 1st XI and Ashburton was unable to go ahead, with the Bridestowe ground absolutely saturated.

This weekend will see the 1st XI travel to play Paignton 2nd XI and the 2nd XI host Chudleigh 2nd XI.

However, there was play on Sunday as the skies cleared.....

Ashburton's South Devon League team made the journey to Kingsbridge and, having won the toss, skipper Matt Churchill decided to bowl in overcast and blustery conditions.

Kingsbridge were quick out of the blocks hitting 22 off the first 2 overs but the brakes were applied when Luke Pascoe (1-24) made the first breakthrough.

The chargers stuck to their lines and applied pressure with good bowling supported by sensible and energetic fielding. Marcus West (2-17) and Jack Warren (3-14) kept things tight during the middle overs as wickets continued to fall. AJ West (1-26) and Matt Churchill (2-41) continued to make life hard for the Kingsbridge batting line up and when the Kingsbridge skipper Westlake was well caught by Sam Higgs the chargers pressed home the advantage to leave Kingsbridge all out for 148.

The reply from the Chargers was all about partnerships. Brilliantly anchored by Phil Pascoe's superb 86 not out, contributions from Nick Yabsley (10), Liam Mansell (14) and Lloyd White (21*) saw the Chargers home confidently with 13 overs to spare.

Speaking after the game, Marcus West said "A superb team performance bringing a well-deserved result."
