Week 18 Match Reports

September 2, 2019

Ashburton first team finished their C division West campaign by cementing their second place in the league table following a good win away to Kingsbridge first team.

On a flat pitch and fast outfield, Kingsbridge posted a competitive total of 248 for 6 led by Will Dorey (73), Bhanu De Silva (45) and Ed Church (31). There were two wickets each for Matt Coon and Matt Churchill and Will Coon (1 for 20) bowled a very tidy nine over spell.

The Chargers reply was led by Jake Pascoe (49) and Lloyd White (41) who hoisted 110 for the first wicket. Four wickets then fell quickly as this became 136 for 4. Arun Karthick (19) and Martin Causey kept the board moving until both fell in quick succession to leave the score 184 for 6. Matt Churchill (37no) and Steve Edmonds then produced a fine partnership of 68 in very good time to speed Ashes to a 4 wicket win with 11 balls to spare.

After the game skipper Ash Berry said "What a fantastic season. Our targets at the start of the season were to improve slightly on last year's position. We have become very consistent with both bat and ball and became much more efficient at seeing out results. It's amazing what you can achieve when you couple belief and effort with a bit of talent and the aim to enjoy your Saturday. I'm blessed to have a great squad of willing cricketers to choose from and play alongside, which includes all playing members of this club. I'd like to thank everyone that has been involved on and off the pitch to make it such a great season. Well done all. ".

The Ashburton reply never got going as they were bundled out for 41 in 22 overs. Marcus West (7) top scoring and youngster Freddie Harvey (4no) battling well at the end.

Ashburton second team finished in mid table in F Division West after being excellently led by Nick Yabsley in his first season of captaincy.
